LA Times launches Photo Sharing Site

More and more, newspapers are cutting newsroom staff to focus on expanding web properties. The LA Times has announced their own Flickr style space at Your Scene. This seems to be a really forward thinking move by a newspaper. Information consumers are no longer satisfied with top down consumption of the news and content. Consumers are now generating content and want to be involved in the creation of information. Your Scene is a way to tap into the consumers of the LA Times to activate them as information generators.

Imagine a model where reader photos could end up being used in the print version of the paper. I see a lot of possibility here.

Its definately been proven that people love being part of social networks. del.icio.us (damn its hard 2 type that), flickr etc are all so popular because of that. This LA Times initiative has the bonus that your random submission might just be used in the actual newspaper. Score! I'm sure this'll grow really big, really quick.
Clever Move.
