Bluedot.us, first introduced to me by my colleague Jay at Edelman, is a unique link sharing site that is looking to add value to communities such as digg or del.icio.us by introducing social networking and community building to the mix.

Users of Bluedot.us "dot" sites, that then become added their total list of dots. Users can add bookmarklets to their web browser to dot on the fly. Bloggers have the ability to automatically syndicate their posts for dotting (expanded capability for this under the new features) and can add their dots to their blog through a widget. Your dots are also available for syndication.

Users create profile pages, send messages to each other (personal messaging is another new feature), make friends, and comment on other users dots.

Other new features include the ability to create permissions for dots and the ability to track comments. You can see a full list and description of the new features at the Bluedot blog.

Overall, Bluedot.us is making a nice effort at combining social networking and link sharing. It remains to be seen if they will draw the large tech audience of digg or del.icio.us.
